Two Die In Road Crashes Overnight

A man in his sixties has died after a road crash in Co Galway in the early hours of this morning.

It’s the third major collision on Irish roads in the space of 24 hours.

A woman in her 60s was killed after being hit by a car in Co Leitrim, while a 20-year-old man is in serious condition after a crash in Loughrea.

Gardaí in Salthill are investigating this morning’s latest serious crash, which happened at Barna at about 20 to six this morning.

The driver – who was a man in his mid sixties – was found dead after his car struck a traffic light. His body was removed to Galway University Hospital for a post mortem.

The road was closed for a time this morning, but it has since re-opened.

It was the second serious collision on Galway roads this morning, after an earlier incident left a 20-year-old man in a critical condition in hospital.

He was the passenger in a car which struck a ditch on the outskirts of Loughrea at about half four this morning.

Meanwhile, Gardaí in Leitrim are investigating after a woman in her 60s was killed after being hit by a car in Co Leitrim yesterday.

She was seriously injured and taken to Sligo General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

It comes as the Road Safety Authority and the Gardaí appeal to drivers to take care to mark World Remembrance Day for road traffic victims.
