Two arrested over criminal damage during Shannon Airport security breach

Two people are being quizzed by gardaí  in connection with an incident at Shannon Airport last month in which anti war protesters made their way onto the main runway.

The man and woman were arrested in the Galway area this morning as part of the ongoing investigation by Shannon gardaí  and are being held on suspicion of criminal damage.

On October 7th last – Security at Shannon Airport was raised when two people breached the perimeter fence on the east side near Shannon Aerospace.

The two anti war protesters who were carrying banners denouncing  the US military use of Shannon were then   apprehended as they made their way onto the main runway.

They were subsequently arrested and released without charge while a file was prepared for the DPP.

Then this morning as part of the ongoing operation – a man in his late fifties and a woman in her seventies were detained in Galway and Oranmore.

They are being held at Mill Street Station in Galway under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act and can be questioned for up to 12 hours.
