Two arrested after taxi hijacked in South East Clare

Two teenagers, have been arrested after a taxi was hijacked in Cratloe Woods.

The driver who had taken a fare from Limerick City to South East Clare was then threatened at knife point, forced to drive back towards Limerick and the ordered to leave the cab near Dooradoyle.

Gardaí subsequently arrested two people, including one from County Clare in connection with the incident.

The taxi driver collected two men at St. Nessan’s Road in Limerick City at 10:20 on Saturday night.  They were brought to Russell Court and Sixmilebridge, and then onto Cratloe Woods where one of the men produced a knife.

The driver was threatened, though he was not physically injured.

He took the men to Limerick City and was instructed to leave the vehicle in Dooradoyle.  The men drove the car in the direction of Garryowen Rugby Club where the taxi was later recovered.

Two men, both in their late teens, were arrested yesterday in relation to the incident.  They are being held at Roxboro Road Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice.
