Tulla Mother Says New Legislation Will Reinforce Important Conversation Of Organ Donation

An East Clare mother believes new legislation will help reinforce the important conversation of organ donation.

The Cabinet this week approved the Human Tissue Bill, which will regulate the practice of organ donation and transplantation in Ireland.

Under the new system, deceased adults will be assumed to be donors, unless they stated otherwise while still alive.

Tulla resident Kirsty Donnellan is mother to the late Scarlett, whose organs were donated after her untimely death, at 17.

She says organ donation is a difficult decision to make, if you don’t know the person’s wishes, but she believes the opt-out system is a positive one.
