Hopes of a major employment boost in the Tulla area have been spurred with the confirmation of the area’s potential as a potential mining hub.
Fresh results announced by IMC Exploration Group have confirmed earlier analysis that the area could become home to a large-scale zinc mine.
In March, IMC announced what were described as ‘exciting’ results following analysis of a drill hole in the Tulla area.
The company now says that further tests carried out on three other drill holes have confirmed these findings.
The independent assessment has revealed similar findings to those recorded at other mines in Tynagh, Silvermines, Lisheen and Crinkill and the report goes onto say that this enhances the ‘prospectivity of licences in the Tulla area’.
The company now says that the East Clare town has the potential to ‘host significant zinc or other base metal mineralization’.
Local representatives have previously welcomed the potential of attracting a major employer to the area, but earlier this year, IMC warned that any large-scale mining operation would be five years away.
