Nurses say there has been a spike in the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital today.
The latest analysis from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 116 patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick during morning rounds, 58 of those on trolleys or chairs in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is more than double the next busiest facility; Galway Univeristy Hospital, where 50 people were on trolleys this morning.
Overall, 537 admitted patients were awaiting a bed at hospitals across the country today, according to the INMO figures.
