Trolley Numbers Spike At Region’s Main Hospital As Week Begins

Nurses say trolley numbers at region’s main hospital are more than two dozen higher than the next busiest facility.

The latest INMO figures show there were 86 patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning.

The number of patients being treated for Covid-19 also jumped at the weekend.

The latest trolleywatch statistics from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 55 patients waiting for beds in the Emergency Department at University Hospital Limerick this morning, with a further 31 in overflow areas of wards.

The overall figures is 28 higher than the next busiest facility; Letterkenny University Hospital.

The number of Covid patients being treated at the Dooradoyle facility also increased over the weekend.

The HSE latest report shows there were 75 people being treated for the virus there this morning, up 18 on Friday’s figure, with 8 in intensive care.

The hospital is continuing to manage a Covid outbreak affecting three wards.
