The level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital is continuing to spiral.
The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 125 admitted patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick during morning rounds, 54 of those in the Emergency Department alone.

The overall figure is 46 more than all ten hospitals serving the east of the country combined.
Galway University Hospital is once again the second busiest facility in the country, where there were 72 patients on trolleys or chairs this morning, while at Cork University Hospital the figure was 63.
Trolley numbers for UHL alone represent a quarter of all patients waiting for beds at Irish Hospitals today, according to the INMO figures.
