The level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital is almost four times higher than the next busiest facility today.
The latest figures, compiled by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, show there were 94 patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 37 of those on trollies in the Emergency Department.
The overall figure is 70 more than the next busiest facility; St James’ Hospital in Dublin, and represents over a third of all admitted patients waiting for beds at hospitals across the country today.
It comes as the INMO has called on the Government to take urgent action take corrective action now to address the overcrowding crisis in hospitals.
