The President has led tributes to the writer Anthony Cronin, who has died.
The Wexford-born 88-year-old will be remembered for his work as a poet, commentator, Irish Times Columnist and biographer of Samuel Beckett.
Michael D Higgins said Mr.Cronin's commitment to the right of artists to simply survive in the most basic sense led to his role in the establishment of Aosdaná.
The Arts Minister Heather Humphreys said such concern was typical of a man who continued to make a significant contribution to the public life of this country throughout his life.
