Tributes Pour In For Former Clare TD, Minister And Senator Brendan Daly Following His Passing

The Tánaiste is leading tributes to former long-standing Clare TD, Minister and Senator Brendan Daly, who’s passed away, aged 83.

First elected to the 20th Dáil in 1973, the Cooraclare native continued to represent the Clare constituency until 2002, while he also served as Senator between 1992 and 1997 and was a lifelong member of Fianna Fáil.

During his time in politics, he was appointed Minister of State in the Departments of the Taoiseach, Labour and Finance, and served in Cabinet as Minister for Defence, Social Welfare, Marine, Fisheries and Forestry.

Tánaiste Micheal Martin has described Brendan Daly as a truly outstanding public representative, who served the people of Clare with great diligence, care and attentiveness.

Close friend and colleague, Mountshannon Fianna Fáil Senator Timmy Dooley has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that he’ll be remembered as a quiet statesman that delivered in spades for the county.

Paying tribute to his party colleague , Fianna Fáil Deputy Cathal Crowe said “Brendan was a very good friend of mine and a valued political mentor for many years. Brendan gave years of stellar service to county, country and the Fianna Fáil party. Brendan was a very proud Cooraclare man throughout his life.

Brendan was a beloved son of the Banner but this morning, as we learn of his passing, my thoughts and prayers are with those closest to him – Niamh, Ronan and Iomhar.

Sleep well friend! There won’t be the likes of you again – Ní bheidh do leithéidh arís ann!”

Speaking in the Dáíl, Scariff Independent TD Michael McNamara said I would like to join in your expressions, those of the Tánaiste and many others of condolences to the family of the late Brendan Daly who represented Clare in this house for a long time and was also a member of the upper house, among his many attributes he was a man of great charm, I think everyone who met him would agree on that and that he was a man of many attributes”

Also speaking in Dáíl Eireann, Kilrush Independent TD Violet Anne Wynne said “I also express my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of former Minister Brendan Daly from County Clare. May he rest in peace.”
