The Clare PRO of Fianna Fáil has added his voice to tributes to PJ Mara.
The former Fianna Fail strategist passed away in hospital in Dublin overnight following a long illness.
Mara was well known for his work with Fianna Fail – including managing the party to three general election victories.
PJ Mara was first known to many through Dermot Morgan's portrayal as Charlie Haughey's henchman on Scrap Saturday.
But that portrayal only scratched the surface of his contribution to Haughey and Fianna Fáil.
He joined as its press secretary in 1983 – and after four years he worked to guide the party back into power in 87, then becoming government press secretary.
Fine Gael's Maurice Manning was in Leinster House at the time.
But despite his skills with the 'black arts' he was well regarded and well liked on all sides.
Fianna Fail TD Willie O'Dea says PJ bridged the gap in the party, created by Charlie Haughey.
Mara stepped down in 1992 but returned as Fianna Fáil director of elections three times – each of which resulted in Bertie Ahern becoming Taoiseach.
Party leader Micheal Martin has described him as a "true original" who brought immense humour, judgement and commitment to his role.
While, the Clare PRO of Fianna Fáil believes he was the great bridge-builder between politicians, decision-makers and the people.

Pj Mara passed away last night at the age of 73, following a long illness – he is survived by his partner and two children.
