Tributes Paid To Icon Of Killaloe And Centenarian Michael Hannon

Heartfelt tributes are being paid to a late Clare centenarian who’s been described as an icon of his town.

Having been born into the era of the Irish War of Independence, Killaloe’s Michael Hannon passed away peacefully this week in his 105th year.

Michael, who’s a great grand nephew of legendary Australian Gold Prospector Paddy Hannon was also a hugely respected figure in his community and was even a guest of honour at the official opening of the Brian Boru Bridge in May.

Local Councillor Tony O’Brien says he was one of life’s gentleman.
