Treacherous roads create driver havoc

Clare Gardai are warning motorists that driving conditions right across the county are simply treacherous this morning.

There is icy and snow on virtually all routes and drivers are being warned to slow down significantly, keep their lights on throughout the day, leave plenty of time for their journeys and not to venture out unless absolutely necessary.

In Ennis, a second truck is now blocking another road after it jacknifed near the Woodstock Hotel and Gardaí say the stretch is barely passable.

Another truck is stuck on the Drehidnagower Road between Lees Road and Shiel’s Garage and is causing delays.

The Kilrush to Ennis Road is said to be extremely dangerous to within a few miles of the West Clare town and it’s also treacherous on roads around Miltown Malbay.

Conditions haven’t improved in East Clare either; some of the worst affected areas include Tulla to Scarrif- Scarrif to Killaloe.

Broadford to Bridgetown and on to O Briensbridge is very icy as is Clonlara to Killaloe.

The Ennis to Limerick Motorway is passable but icy in parts and drivers are urged to reduce their speed.
