Traveller Group Says Clare County Council Can Do More To Provide Accommodation

A group representing the travelling community insists more needs to be done to provide traveller accommodation in Clare.

It comes as Clare County Council defends itself against claims from Anti-Austerity Alliance TD Ruth Coppinger that it's spent none of the 200,000 euro that's been granted to it for housing for travellers.

The Local Authority says it has spent some 250,000 euro this year and the funding Deputy Coppinger is referring to is specifically for a new group housing scheme at Ballaghboy, Ennis, with much of this money to be spent next year.

Martin Collins of Pavee Point says while any new accommodation is welcome, local authorities can still do much more.
