The cost of maintaining Clare’s traveller accomodation sites has exceeded Council budgets by almost half a million euro so far this year.
The Clare County Manager has expressed concerns that expenditure on traveller housing is increasing every year – with an extra 450,000 euro spent in the first six months of 2011, and councillors will now discuss the issue in detail next month due to the alarming surge in costs.

Questions have been raised about high costs associated with security at traveller sites, and legal costs associated with a number of court cases.
