Irish Rail Warns Ballycar Flooding Will Worsen

Irish Rail is warning that flooding issues affecting the rail line at Ballycar will worsen significantly, before they get better.

The track at Ballycar, just outside Newmarket-on-Fergus, was closed yesterday after becoming submerged in flood waters, following weeks of excessive rainfall.

This is the latest in a long line of flooding issues plaguing this particular section, which has previously closed for up to 20 weeks at a time.

Rail replacement services are in operation until the issue is resolved but CEO of Iarnród Éireann Jim Meade, who hails from Sixmilebridge, says it’s impossible to say what’s coming down the tracks.
