Transport Minister Eamon Ryan is to meet with the daa and the Irish Aviation Authority after a number of flights were diverted to Shannon last night following drone sightings at Dublin Airport.

Ryanair flight FR-225 from Budapest and Emirates flight EK-163 from Dubai entered holding patterns for a time before finally opting to divert to Shannon.

Another Ryanair flight diverted to Belfast.

Dublin Airport itself has called for new legislation and a state agency responsible for technology to counter drones.

Speaking at Ryanair’s Operations Centre in Dublin last night, Michael O’Leary demanded action from the Transport Minister.
