The Transport Minister has branded as "irresponsible" claims that Shannon Airport could close if operated by local councils and business interests without state support.
Leo Varadker is looking at the possibility of establishing a local concession model as outlined in the Booz Report with an announcment expected by Easter and structures in by the end of 2012.

However, Clare Fianna Fail Td Timmy Dooley has warned that pressing ahead with this plan will untimately see the closure of the Mid West facility as local groups will not be able to match the 8 million euro funding that Shannon currently receives.
But Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus Minister Leo Varadkar rejected these suggestions as potentially damaging to local business.
