The Transport Minister believes the recent announcement of the new Shannon-Chicago route proves that the MidWest airport can secure new services even with uncertaintly over its future.
On Wednesday, United Airlines announced it was commencing a daily service from Clare’s International Airport to Chicago next summer and its estimated this will generate millions for the local economy.
Local stakeholders are now urging Leo Varadkar to expediate the seperation of Shannon from the DAA so it can attact further such routes.
The Minister says he hopes to have proposals before a cabinet sub-committee by the end of the month- and if its approved by Cabinet members next month – separation could be in place by the end of the year.
