The Transport Minister has given his clearest indication yet that he intends for Shannon Airport to become fully independent.
Speaking in the Dáil last evening, Minister Leo Varadkar also insisted that Shannon’s future is safe, and said that Shannon’s debt would be written down, or left with the DAA, under new arrangements for it’s ownership and operation
The recently published Booz report on Shannon’s future put forward two options – one would see it report to a newly established state run company, though Minister Varadkar says he’s not satisfied that this would lead to adequate change.
The other option would see Clare’s international airport run by local interest groups on an independent basis.
While admitting it’s not perfect, Minister Varadkar says he is considering it.
