A stop-go system is to be trialed in a North Clare village to alleviate traffic issues associated with a bridge no longer deemed to be fit for purpose.
Corofin Fianna Fáil Councillor Joe Killeen has proposed the system in his native village as a means of improving road safety at the narrow bridge connecting Main Street to the Ennis Road.
Responding to the motion, the West Clare Municipal District has conceded that the traffic system at the bridge needs to be “reconsidered and upgraded”, and says they’ll look to advance the proposal in 2025.
Councillor Killeen says it’s high time such a system was introduced as the bridge simply can’t accommodate two vehicles at a time.
