Traditional approach to Ennis market

Plans for the development of a covered market in Ennis are taking on a more traditional approach, by sheltering the existing farmers market in the town.

Members of Ennis Town Council met last evening to discuss plans for the redevelopment of the market including proposals for a covered area in Moran’s Car Park off Lysaght’s Lane in Lower Market Street.

But the Council has put this aspect of its plans on the long finger for now, prioritising all weather canopies for the Garraunakilla area where the farmers market takes place, and then the Barack Street area where a covered outdoor dining area is being considered.

Having visited markets in Dublin and Westport, members are opting for canopy umbrellas that cost 25,000 euro each, but Councillor Tommy Brennan feels expenses will be kept to a minimum.
