Clare Tourism Trade Affected By VAT Hike

An Ennis hotelier says the sector is suffering because of the increase in VAT.

The lower rate of 9%, introduced during the recession to help increase revenue, was abolished in last year’s budget in favour of the old rate of 13.5%.

The move was widely condemned by those working in the sector in Clare, who say they’re now working to recoup the losses without putting prices up too much which, for many, is proving difficult.
