Thumbs Up for Clare Bathing Areas

The quality of bathing water in Clare has passed with flying colours the latest batch of testing from the Environmental Protection agency.

The EPA’s report into the quality of bathing water across the country for 2008 has found that 10 out of the 11 areas tested are compliant with EU guidelines

The quality of bathing water in Clare has passed with flying colours the latest batch of testing from the Environmental Protection agency.

The EPA’s report into the quality of bathing water across the country for 2008 has found that 10 out of the 11 areas tested are compliant with EU guidelines

However, Ballyalla Lake failed to comply with regulations and has been classed as poor quality.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s report into the Quality of Bathing Water in Ireland for 2008 tested 131 bathing areas across the country.

93 percent were found to have sufficient water quality status while 78 percent went a little bit further and complied with the stricter EU guidelines and were classed as good water quality.

In Clare, 11 bathing areas were surveyed during the course of the inspections

Ballycuggeran, Bishopsquarter, Cappagh Pier in Kilrush, Fanore, Kilkee, Lahinch, Mountshannon, Spanish Point, White Strand in Doonbeg along with White Strand in Miltown Malbay all achieved the higher standard of good water quality.

However, Ballyalla Lake in Ennis failed to comply with the standards set out by the EPA and was classed as poor quality of bathing water.
