Threshold Says Current Legislation Not Strong Enough To Keep Clare Homes Out Of Short Term Rental Market

Housing charity Threshold says current legislation isn’t strong enough to keep Clare homes out of the short-term rental market.

New figures published today show there are currently 1,044 short terms lets in this county on platforms such as AirBnb while there are just 17 properties available to rent in the county.

Legislation proposed by the government would require any homeowner renting their house for more than 21 days to register with Fáilte Ireland and would grant the tourism body the power to levy fines of up to €2,000 on households listing properties without the valid registration numbers.
