Three of Clare’s five Oireachtas members are landlords.

The newly-published Registers of Members’ Interests for the Dáil and the Seanad show this county’s elected national representatives collectively own six rental properties.

Members of Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann are required to make an annual statement of their registrable interests.

These include their occupations aside from being public representatives, directorships, shares, properties in their ownership and gifts they’ve received.

While Bodyke Fine Gael Deputy Joe Cooney doesn’t list landlord as his occupation, he admits to owning two rental properties; one in Scariff and the other in Newmarket-on-Fergus.

Tulla Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley names “letting” as a source of income, identifying a property in Rathfarnham, Dublin 16 and Charlotte Quay Dock, Dublin 4 as being in his possession.

The register states that Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway owns two rental properties, with these being in Ennistymon and in Ennis.

Deputy Crowe’s entry states he is also a farmer, he has two shares of €500 a piece in value in Sixmilebridge Mart, neither of which yield any annual dividend, and that he owns farmland at two sites in Cratloe.

It’s also noted that he owns a farmhouse at one of the sites which is in a “poor state of repair and requires renovation before it can be habitable”.

The only Clare Oireachtas member holding any directorships is Senator Conway who is a non-executive board member of Vision Ireland and the CARA Centre on MTU’s Kerry Campus.

Shannon Sinn Féin TD Donna McGettigan’s only declared interest is her occupation as a printer in the Smithstown Industrial Estate in Shannon.
