Clare’s Fianna Fáil Senator believes a signal should be sent by Government by expelling the Russian Ambassador without delay.
Timmy Dooley was last night informed he’s among the 52 politicians who’ve been banned from entering Russia, with Meelick Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe and Clarecastle Fine Gael TD Joe Carey also named.
It follows a meeting between Russian Ambassador Yuri Filatov and Department of Foreign Affairs Officials, during which the Government stressed it’s objection to the travel ban and made its position clear.
Mountshannon Senator Dooley has described his inclusion on the blacklist as futile, saying he’s never been in Russia and doesn’t intend to visit there.
He’s told Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that he does believe, however, that there’s a necessity to retain some diplomatic links with Russia.
