65,000 12 to 15 year olds have registered for a Covid 19 vaccine.
It comes as an East Clare mother is asking other parents to think of compromised families when deciding whether to vaccinate their children.
The portal opened up for the age group on Wednesday evening and demand has been strong for jabs.
The HSE Chief Executive says many of these will be administered this weekend.
Paul Reid says over 80 per cent of adults are now fully vaccinated and almost 90 per cent partially vaccinated.
He says Ireland is right to be proud of the programme and the public’s response.
Secretary General of the Irish Pharmacy Union, Darragh O’Loughlin says most vaccinations of the 12-15 year old age group will begin in pharmacies today.
An East Clare mother, meanwhile, wants parents to think of families who have children with underlying conditions when making a choice about vaccination.
Parents are required to give consent for their child to receive a jab, and Scariff mum Alexandra contacted Clare FM’s Morning Focus to highlight her family’s situation.
Her 12-year-old daughter who has epilepsy and her 14-year-old son with asthma have been isolating for much of the last 18 months for fear of contracting the virus.
She says they’re looking forward to being able to go into school fully vaccinated.
