In Clare, 2,723 students are preparing to take on English Paper 1 this morning at 9.30.
Doing the Leaving Cert in Clare this year, are 653 female students and 637 male students while there are a total of 1,433 students undergoing the Junior Cert, 692 girls and 741 boys.
Changes in the Leaving Cert timetable mean that the second English paper is not until tomorrow morning leaving most students with either a morning or an evening off at some stage during the first few days of exams.
Nationally, over 55 thousand Leaving Certs and over 56 thousand Junior Certs will sit down to English papers at half past nine this morning in 4 thousand 5 hundred test centres across the country.
The Minister for Education Batt O’Keefe is urging all Leaving and Junior Cert students to remain calm and stay focused as the State exams begin today.
