Maura Thornton from Inverin in Connemara stabbed Kevin Joyce 18 times when he appeared uninvited outside her apartment in Galway two years ago.
The victim’s family previously told the Central Criminal Court that they hoped his 31 year-old killer would be given the opportunity to heal.
Maura Thornton broke down in Court last week and described the Joyce family as gracious in its forgiveness.
Today she was given a 10 year sentence with three years suspended.
