Theft In Clare Hits 10-Year-High For January To March

Incidents of theft and related offences in Clare hit a 10-year-high for the period of January to March this year.

Across the first three months of the year, over 230 such instances were reported to the Gardaí which was up 10% on the same period in 2024.

The latest crime data published by the Central Statistics Office shows theft remains the most prevalent type of criminality in the Banner County.

In the first quarter of the year, a whole 234 criminal incidents of theft and related offences were reported to Gardaí.

This was 10% more than what was recorded in the same stretch of 2024 and was the highest figure for the three-month period since 2015.

Similarly, instances of shop theft in Clare rose by 9% to 114, while other types of theft including the handling of stolen property fell by three to 79.

There were 95 reports of damage to property and to the environment in the county in the first three months of the year which was two fewer than the number for the same time last year.

Incidents of public order and other social code offences here meanwhile increased by 6% to 95.
