The UL Hospitals Group has confirmed that the ransomware attack on the HSE has affected the telephone system at University Hospital Limerick.

The HSE’s IT systems were targeted in the early hours of yesterday morning and it could be a number of days before they’re restored.

Thousands of appointments and procedures at hospitals across the country might have to be cancelled early next week as a result.

The system to register for a coronavirus vaccine is back up and running, as are the Covid test result and contact tracing platforms.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the state won’t be meeting the demands of those behind this attack.

A new temporary telephone number has been set up at University Hospital Limerick and members of the public are advised to use this number to contact the main reception at the Dooradoyle facility.

The UL Hospitals Group is advising that callers may experience delays as they work to resolve the issue, but hospital management are reassuring that staff are working to answer calls as soon as possible.

Those wishing to contact reception at UHL can do so by ringing 061 482 119.
