Teenagers charged in connection with taxi hijack in Cratloe Woods

Two teenagers have been charged in connection with the hijacking of a taxi at knifepoint at Cratloe Woods in South East Clare.

18 year old Hugh Kavanagh from Shanamore, Clareview Limerick and Aaron Moloney of McGarry House, Limerick – aged 19,  appeared before Limerick District Court this afternoon.

Giving evidence before Judge Eugene O Kelly – Detective Garda Pat Whelan told Limerick District Court that after he charged Aaron Moloney with the unlawful seizure of the taxi at Saint Nessan’s Road on Saturday night the accused replied – Is that the only charge.

The unemployed 19 year old was granted legal aid and didn’t seek bail.

Detective Garda Pauric O’Dwyer – who formally charged the second teenager Hugh Kavangh this morning in connection with the same incident-  said the accused replied I accept these charges – he too also granted legal aid

The court heard directions are being sought from the DPP.

Both men were remanded in custody by Judge Eugene O’Kelly to appear before the court again tomorrow when Mr Kavanagh is due to make a bail application.
