Teenager Living With Tissue Disorder Frustrated At Having To Travel Abroad For Treatment

A teenager living with a debilitating illness says it’s frustrating that she’s being forced to travel to Spain for treatment.

16-year-old Ciara Micks, who’s from Limerick and has family links in Clare, was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes three years ago – a group of connective tissue disorders that severely compromise mobility and quality of life.

Her condition has deteriorated rapidly and as a result, Ciara and her mother Anne are travelling to Barcelona next month for a life-saving procedure, as there’s no EDS specialist in Ireland.
