A teenage boy has drowned in the reservoir at Ardnacrusha.
The seventeen year old was swimming with friends in the water near Barry’s Cross when he failed to resurface shortly after 4:30pm.
The alarm was raised and the Shannon rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene along with several units from Limerick Marine Search and Rescue.
The teenager’s body was recovered from the water shortly after 6pm.
It’s understood he is from the Meelick area.
This is the third drowning death on Irish waterways in the past twenty four hours, and the fifth so far this week
