Fire personnel were called to what was described as a fire in a shed at a housing estate on the Lahinch Road in Ennis after 6 o'clock last evening.

Two units of the fire service went to the scene, but on arrival they were confronted by two teenagers and were refused access to the property.

One of the youths produced an iron bar, before this was taken from him, while shortly afterwards he went into a home and came back outside with a knife that he is alleged to have used to threaten the fire crews.

Gardaí arrived at the scene and arrested two youths – one has been released without charge, while the other is due in court in Co. Limerick this afternoon.

Fire fighters later established that there was no fire and that the call was a false alarm.
