The Dáil has agreed to enact legislation for plans to establish Clare’ International Airport on an independent, debt free footing from December 31st.
Deputies passed a motion on the issue in Leinster House this afternoon by 83 votes to 36.
However an Fianna Fail amendment to retain Aer Rianta International within the new Shannon Company was rejected.
Transport Minister Leo Varadkar will travel to Clare to officially sign off on the new legislation and speaking during today’s Dáil debate says separation ensures Shannon determines its own future.
