A record high of 66 people were waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick yesterday, while on Tuesday 11 ambulances were left queueing for a number of hours to offload patients to the Emergency Department.
Dr Michael Harty says he's been told by a patient that 8 beds were left lying idle in the region's main hospital over the Christmas period and he believes mis-management is having knock-on consequences for every aspect of the health system.
