It follows comments by Chief Whip Paul Kehoe last week when he said the Taoiseach wanted to remain as leader of the country until past 2021.

According to the Irish Independent, the Taoiseach has poured cold water on the claims and said Mr Kehoe had used a great deal of "poetic licence" when he was speaking.

Speaking in Mayo yesterday, Enda Kenny said the question of who governs the country was a matter for the people and his priority is to finish the job he has.
