The Taoiseach is visiting Clare today to launch a new report on the future of the Shannon Estuary.
Leo Varadkar will be joined by the Minister for the Environment, Minister for Enterprise and Minister for Education at the launch in Ardnacrusha.
The ESB Ardnacrusha Generating Station will be the site where the final report of the independent Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce will be launched.
The taskforce was set up by the Taoiseach in April 2022 to develop an economic action plan for the Shannon Estuary region with the main goal of making it a premier location for offshore renewable energy as well as a transport hub.
The interim report, which was published last December, sets out the taskforce’s goal of supplying offshore wind energy through the estuary by 2030, with the intention of significantly accelerating it up to 2050.
It also proposes significant investment in the ports at Foynes and Moneypoint, a new auction for floating wind generation in 2024, and identifying industrial sites for clean energy industries like hydrogen.
In addition, the report states the estuary would become a hub for sustainable transport technologies and a western “digital gateway” to Europe.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will be launching the final report in Ardnacrusha along with Ministers Eamon Ryan, Simon Coveney and Norma Foley.
