Taoiseach to push for bank debt deal at EU gathering

The Taoiseach will meet with his EU counterparts in Brussels later – where he will push for the implementation of agreements made earlier this year on banking debt.

Last June, EU leaders agreed to use the ESM bailout fund to directly recapitalise banks.

But since then, some EU Finance Ministers have said that this should only be applied to future debt, rather than legacy debt – a move which would have a negative impact on Ireland.
