The Taoiseach insists there will be further supports to come for tourism dependent businesses in Clare impacted by a high volume of hotels hosting international protection applicants.
The most recent Fáilte Ireland report identified 25% of Clare’s hotels were contracted to provide Asylum Seeker accommodation, the highest rate nationwide.
The issue has been exacerbated for the sector with the hospitality VAT rate remaining at 13.5% in Budget 2025.
Speaking to Clare FM’s Morning Focus, Taoiseach Simon Harris says the current situation is unsustainable and that an exit strategy will be on the way for Clare along with measures for pubs, cafes and restaurants.
