Taoiseach on first official Berlin visit

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will travel to Berlin today for his first official meeting with another Eurozone leader.

At the top of the agenda will be Ireland’s implementation of the terms of our bailout deal, but Mr Kenny will also be keen to talk to Angela Merkel about her wish for European Treaty changes.

His message will be that protocol changes  to the treaty may be acceptable, but that any referendum would be unlikely to pass in Ireland in the near future.

The meeting comes amid ongoing concerns about the future of the single currency, and the Eurozone itself in its current form.

European Affairs Minister Lucinda Creighton says Ireland is committed to the euro:
