The Taoiseach insists next week’s Budget will ‘deal with’ the issue of poverty in a targeted way for those who may struggle this winter.
It follows concerns raised in this county after the publication of the stark ‘Towards an Anti-Poverty Strategy for Clare’ report, which claimed poverty in this county is ‘systemic’ and the housing system here is ‘chaotic’.
It also says there are ‘stark differences’ in the delivery of healthcare in Clare compared to other counties, while suggesting the National Development Plan ‘overlooks’ this county.
Speaking in Shannon, Micheal Martin wouldn’t be drawn on the specifics of the report, but insists next week’s Budget will include targeted measures to help address some of the issues mentioned in it.
