The Taoiseach has called a cabinet meeting this morning ahead of a 2 day summit in Brussels involving EU leaders.
European leaders are in talks with UK Prime Minister David Cameron over Britain's renegotiation of its membership of the EU.
David Cameron is satisfied that pre-agreements made with head of the European Council Donald Tusk is enough to create the UK’s own version of European membership whilst keeping in line with EU's fundamental principles.
He needs support from each of his 27 counterparts however and at least 4 governments from central and Eastern European countries including Poland and Hungary have raised concerns about the rights and benefits that will apply to their citizens living in Britain.
Much of the finer detail of this highly technical and complex set of proposals requires a lot of negotiation as EU diplomats from all sides are preparing to talk long into the night.
