The Taoiseach says he intends to ask the Health Minister and the HSE to issue ‘further examination’ to serious overcrowding issues at the region’s main hospital.

The UL Hospitals Group is advising the public to consider all other care options before presenting to the emergency department in Dooradoyle.

Addressing question from Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara in the Dail, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the issues can’t be solved overnight.

Meanwhile, a North Clare GP says the situation at UHL is a ‘very real concern’ for practitioners across the county.

Lahinch doctor Michael Kelleher says it’s very important patients sent to emergency departments are dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner.
