An Ennis-based Personal Trainer, who’s skin became badly damaged from over-use of sunbeds is warning that while tan fades, damage doesn’t.
It follows the publication of a report from the Institute of Public Health, which states that children and teenagers are still using sunbeds, despite regulations restricting use for under 18s.
The Government has now established a cross-departmental working group to explore a ban on commercial sunbed use.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Ireland, with over 11,000 cases of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer diagnosed every year and Karrieann McDonnell, who’s use of sunbeds for a decade led to the removal of 19 skin lesions, says there should be greater regulation around sunbed use.
