Syrian governmenet steps up efforts to reclaim rebel held areas

Large numbers of government forces have been moved to fight in Syria’s second city Aleppo in a bid to reclaim rebel-held areas.

The commercial hub is home to around two and a half million people – and has become a new front in the country’s 16-month uprising.

A spokesman for the rebel Free Syrian Army claims that dozens of Bashar Al Assad’s troops are defecting on the spot.
