Syrian Ceasefire Begins

There are no reports of violence in Syria so far – as a ceasefire begins this morning.

The new deadline for the end to violence was set by UN/Arab League envoy Kofi Annan, after Government forces breached Tuesday’s ceasefire.

Thousands of people have been killed in violence that broke out last March.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary William Hague had promised tough measures against the Syrian regime if it failed to comply with this morning’s ceasefire.

It’s understood it’s still refusing to withdraw tanks from rebel strongholds, and is retaining the right to attack what the government calls "terrorist groups."
